Rio Muchacho - is an organic farm on the coast of Ecuador, deep in the montubio culture It is a model farm for the coast and practices permaculture, organic farming, and reforestation etc. A community environmental school has also been developed close to the farm. Volunteers participate in the farm activities or in the school in the morning and develop their own projects in the afternoon. Wednesday afternoon is cultural afternoon where volunteers do different activities eg, making chocolate, fishing river shrimp, excursion up river on horseback to see howler monkeys. need people for projects involving: reforestation, cleaning
and cooking in our restaurant, construction and maintenance
of cabins, cleaning the beach litter, and more. Volunteers pay
USD 8 per day, and for this they get a comfortable bed with
mosquito net and 3 delicious meals a day (American breakfast,
a vegetarian lunch or dinner, and a third meal including chicken,

Santa
Martha - is part of Fundacion Espiritu del Bosque, a fully
registered non profit organisation in Ecuador, that helps to rehabilitate
illegally trafficked wildlife. The fundacion comprises 4 projects,
a vets centre, where all animals go first for essential care and
treatment. Then they will either go to Santa Martha to be rehabilitated
into their natural environment once again, or to a smaller centre
which caters only for baby animals, again to rehabilitate and
release them. The 4th project is the Andean Spectacled Bear tracking
centre which monitors released bears to ensure their ongoing welfare
and survival. Volunteers can volunteer in any one, or all four,
of these projects, which allows a great feeling of achievement
- to be involved with the animal from its initial entry to its

Yanayacu Biological
Station & Center for Creative Studies - is a new organization
in the cloud forests of the north eastern Andes. Volunteers pay
only USD 7 per day with all food and lodging included. Projects
to help with range from community outreach to reforestation, trail
development, teaching aid development, and pure scientific research.
Volunteers work on ongoing and small data collection projects
that often result in shared authorship with the supervising biologists.

Río
Guaycuyacu Reserve - is a family farm and nature reserve at
the junction of two rivers in the rainforest lowlands of northwest
Ecuador. Most of our cultivated land is in fruit orchards, with
over 300 different species of fruits from around the tropical
world. Our interest is in sustainable agriculture, using cover
crops, alley cropping, and selective regeneration. Besides the
orchards and nursery, there is a vegetable garden, other subsistence
crops, and ornamental and medicinal plants. Farm
chores are varied and give you an opportunity to do many different
things- orchard and nursery work, food preparation (making jams,
vinegar, chocolate, bread, tempeh etc.), construction (often using
native materials like palm and bamboo), crafts, botany and natural
history, gardening. You may also choose to work on your own projects,
and you will have plenty of free time. Your stay could, if you
wish, include some time spent living and working with any of several
campesino neighbor families on their farms nearby.

& Child Day Care
Do you enjoy
working with children? There are a number of orphanages in Quito
that regularly need volunteers. Additionally, on the coast, in
the resort town of Atacames, is a non-profit daycare center for
underprivileged children funded and run by Hotel Arcos Iris, that
will trade room and board for full-time work. Basic Spanish and
experience with children is essential. A further option is teaching
English for room and board at the Genesis school in Bahia de Caraquez.
